Samsung NC10 netbook tested

Yep, I can see the SIM card slot for 3G but I was expecting some major goodies compared to other netbooks..

Samsung has made super work on UMPC battery life, but netbooks doesn't seem to deserve the same engineering quality:

Less than 2 hour battery life with 3 cell battery!

On other fronts it gets high grades for looks and quality...

I was really considering getting the Ssamsung but I decided to go for the Eee PC 1000H. Im still very intrested about how this netbook will perform.

I think the samsung has the best keyboard of the bunch, but the battery needs to be bigger and the unit more efficient. Is there a larger battery announced?

Most NC10 will have 6 cells.

Me too, but recently I finally got 1000H and I'm pretty happy with it. But I think NC10 is one of the best or maybe the best one of current generation 10' netbooks. Well keep waiting netbooks on some new platforms, like double-Atom, AMD's, VIA Nano, or actually UrbanMax.

I've preordered mine from play.com. According to the project page at least, it should be coming with a 6 cell battery. :)

In the manual and in the press release from Samsung their is nothing about the 3G slot. I'm very curious if it will be in the final 6 cell version I pre-ordered. Is a 3G slot the same as a 3G module?

Tried to load Ubuntu 8.0.4.1 (with Intel Atom Processor support). It hangs on partition editor. Tried other methods and it always hangs in the same place. I’ve an Acer Aspire One which runs beautifully in Ubuntu 8.04.1 and has similar hardware. I could be the installation media though I doubt this since I have used it successfully on other computers. I’m beginning to suspect that the Data Execution Prevention which is compiled into the NC10’s bios is preventing Linux from being installed. A fine netbook, if you are a Windows user.

Linux enthusiasts, be circumspect with this one.

Well I've ordered mine already! So it better turn out good lol! The bog draw for me was the reported battery life being above many current offerings. I also was keen on the bigger keyboard and wanted a useable netbook that I could do some light work on!

I'll let you all know how I get on with it :)!

My initial installation of Ubuntu failed because I did not disable acpi.

I tried Intrepid Ibex from a Live USB. I could get to the partition editor this time in seconds after clicking on "install".
Apart from WiFi not working out of the box (Bluetooth, however, does)and a few Fn buttons not responding I don't envisage any problems installing the latest Linux kernel (2.6.27xxx) on the Samsung NC10.

How easy is it to install the 3G modem in NC10 Sammy? Is it even possible? If it is, what parts are needed?

I am getting 7 hours batery life from the 6 cell. I love this netbook, best battery life from a 6 cell so far.
