Very nice. Am I right in guessing though that you won't be replacing the Eee with the Fujitsu just yet?

Was that antenna a 900/1800/2100 MHz antenna or just a plain 2100 MHz antenna? Operation outside current 3G betworks is essential for some. With that card the diversity might help with the signal quality too, if there's space for one more antenna!

It is very interested - in Korean models GPS module is connected in such way as 3g (PCI Express Mini)? So, it is probably means that 3g and GPS is not a friends...

jkk great infos as usual!
thank you so much... I noticed that the device is not properly 'fast' in rotating screen and so on..

I am very unsure if I have to change my 900 with this one.. but this is so small.. a perfect everyday bus/train companion..

thank you

ps: did you remove the tokidoki lid cover? ;-) there are all the cover in the package or you got an extra one?

pps: do you think that vista is the better OS on this device or maybe xp is better? (I would prefer mac os...:-( )

I just use a black sticker on top of that horrible tokidikioki thingy...

Dynamo: How many times would you need to hear and read it to know the model? The model is said and even linked to in the article.

can this mod be done on a U810?

Anonymous said...

Fujitsu already makes a version of the U810 with 3G modem built-in. You just need to find that version. Pity they did not make a 3G version for the U2010 / U820!

Do the WIFI sill on?

For some reason Conics said that it either or can't be both.

Can someone clarify this?

Thank you =)

Great Mod, I am interested. One worry I have is the thickness of the card, can you close the back fully without gaps?

I have a problem with the card, connection to HSPDA network is not a problem but I lost internet connectivity even I am still connected. This happens after about 1 minute of connection. Is this a firmware issue or software tweaking can solve. Appreciate any help.

Hi Jkk,

I have seen you adding a U850D HSDPA card into the U2010. But I wonder if you have tried to install a Sierra Wireless MC8775 card into U2010 and make it work. If so, I would like to know how to make it work. I have a M8775 card and tried to solder a sim card slot. The 3G watcher regonise the card but not the sim card. Any idea? Or any trick to make it work? Do I need to cover all the pins from 1 to 16 before inserting the card? Thanks.

Need help! I have a 810 which has an empty GSM slot like the 820, however has a wlan module and a spare PCI-e slot (non-soldered). I tried to use a 3.5 modem (KM266, ericsson, from Dell mini 9) by swapping with the Wlan module. Somehow my system cannot detect the modem. I had taken some photos to share and do let me know how to upload to you. Merry Xmas!

Matthew: Did you ever make any progress on this? I want to do the exact same thing to min U820, since Sierra Wireless is the exact same WAN card used by Fujitsu, which should help when it comes to suspend support, etc.

Could it be that the SIM reader needs a newer BIOS update (since FM sender is apparently controlled by the BIOS) ?

Hi! do yu happen to know the brandname/model of the ATT HSDPA mini pci-e card for the built-in ATT broadband u820 models? Would replacing it with a voice enabled mini-pci-e card let it make phone calls? thanks!

As i have both the U820 and U2010 infront of me,
i took them apart to figure out if the 3G and GPS,
could be added,
The GPS is located under the keyboard,
next to the Bluetooth module,
there is a place for it in the U2010 and connector,
so i tried the one from the U820 inside the U2010 and it worked without any problems,
the bios did show it till after 2 restarts,
the 3G card model was MC8781 and this also take few restarts to show up,
the motherboard has the pins out for the sim card,
if you arent that great with a soldering iron,
take it to a computer repair shop and there'll charge £10 to solder it for you...
more help go to -

I had asked before but do not see my comment here anywhere. Can you comment on the Connection Manager software you used?

Thank you!
