How-to: 3G to Dell Mini 9. Not so easy way..

You need to use Novatel EU850D for this mod as it has SIM slot on it

Solder 4 wires, 3.3V to pin 52 ( or pin 2 ), USB lines to pins 36 and 38 and ground to pin 4 ( or pin 50 ).

Then solder the other ends to the matching pins on the pcie traces. Use shorter cables than i did... This photo was taken when i was testing it..

Then tape the solders and the area under the 3G modem. Connect the second antenna cable from wifi module to the 3G modem.

Be mobile!

Novatel EU850D at MobilX

Mobilink software with on/off

If you are not happy using wifi antenna, contact me, as I got more film antennas I have used on other 3G mods

Dell Mini 9 now with 64GB SSD and 2GB RAM..for Linux only

Great news for Ubuntu lovers, but is MS shooting it's own leg with these restrictions?

To sell XP with netbooks OEMs are not aloud to have more than 1GB RAM, 16GB SSD/160GB HDD on the setup..

Will netbooks be the most pirated computers this way?

Thanks MyDellMini

Dell Mini 9's shipping with smaller batteries than they should

Quality control problem or margin seeking?

Peter has been testing his Dell Minis and noted that one of his Mini 9's had smaller 24Wh battery than on the other one. Marking on the both states it should be 32Wh.

I just checked mine with a battery software. It's 24Wh too. The review unit I had earlier had 32Wh 4 cell.

So if you were wondering how Mini 9 got 4 hours on reviews but only 3 hours on your use, this is the reason.. If you are shopping one, check the battery label, if it starts with KR it's the cheapo, if it starts with CN it's ok.

But is it just bad quality control or is Dell trying to push up their margins by using cheaper batteries?

Not good...

UPDATE: Forum members now testing more.. looks like a battery firmware error and difference seems smaller too
