So far i really like it.

It's has all the same cpu/chipset/harware than 701, but with the 8.9 inch 1024 x 600 screen, 1GB ram, 1.3mp cam and 8GB SSD.

Option for Linux or XP. Available mid April at 399 euros with Linux.

UPDATE: I posted a follow up on it

Hi
do you know what countries in which will it be sold first?

The larger screen is great, and it's good that they're not charging too much more for the bigger screen but in all honesty, looking at all that bezel space around the 7" screen (referring to all that black basically) they could have, and in my opinion should have fit another inch of screen on it. A screen pushing the limits of the bezel would look better, and be more functional considering how small the machine is.

I really like it. Great video again JKK. With the larger hard drive and larger resolution screen this may be a winner. I just wish I wasn't obsessed with the tablet for factor.

While this is an improvement, I certainly love the EEE 701 better. Especially due to the speakers are not in your face but under the device (bad choice!). Also, seems like getting hold of a 8.9" touchscreen will be more difficult. I'm happy with what I got. Not worth the upgrade.

why didn't you check what CPU's there?

WOW/ I'm sertanly going to buy this... there is only one thig botering me. WHEN will it be sold in western Europe (the Baltic states) or in Russiia.. so far Russia didn't even get the oficial 701 :(

@JAmerican: Keep your eyes peeled for a Fujitsu P1610 or P1620 touchscreen on e-bay, it'll fit right in (despite being only passive). I don't think the down-facing speaker arrangement will be that much of a problem, as using headphones or getting a bluetooth module with a good set of BT stereo heaphones will probably be a better arrangement.

Just an afterthought: considering the extra bezel space, the touchscreen from an LG C1 or newer LG P100 might just fit in there as well...

399 Euros = 606.5598 U.S. dollars!!

just doesn't seem quite worth it. I think you're better off using your 600 on a better performing laptop. Of course it will be bigger, so.....??

I'm sure it will not be available in most of the places in april, but they said at the conference it will be mid april for the "first selected place"

you should expect "mid summer" for real availability

when he holds them up at the same time, the 900 looks a lot heavier. what the weight on it?

Anonymous said...

What´s the weight of this unit?
It looks alot heavier...
I don´t like the speakerplacement.

It'll be in Asia first, and then Europe.

On the video we can see eepc900 is running WinXP. Isn't that quite a difference?!

I think the current 7" 8G EEE is going to soon stop production so that they can sell the new basic EEE for $499 in U.S. and Canada or that They will make low end models to replace the current EEE family like having on with 2g ssd, 8.9" screen, and linux for $299 and so on.
