JKK said...

and here: http://www.digitalww.com/store/proddetail.asp?prod=TS7K

Anonymous said...

Woow!!

How do you put this touchscreen in the Eee ? Is it complicated ?

If you have a method, I take it ! :D

JKK said...

I just added the touch pnel between the screen and the housing..

check these pix: http://www.digitalww.com/store/proddetail.asp?prod=TS7K

then connected wires to small ( like 6 cm x 2 cm ) usb controller and soldered wires to mainboard usb pins: http://tnkgrl.wordpress.com/2007/11/20/modding-the-asus-701-eee/

Hi!

What an amazing mod! Did you use a 4-wire kit or a 5-wire kit? - Which one is easier to install?

Regards from Austria

JKK said...

mine is 4 wire..
.. there is no difference on installation.

5 wire touch have been said to be better/more accure but i really havent seen any difference..

Anonymous said...

plz post a how to...!!!would be a nice gift for christmas :-)

Anonymous said...

Is that XP with Vista Inspirat or some other sort of Vista theme? That is an awesome mod, So after we plug everything the 4 wires that are in the usb controller has to be sodered on according to the link you gave us?

JKK said...

That theme is Zune theme: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=75078

Yep, u just solder 4 usb cables to right places..

Unknown said...

How feasible would it be to mod the screen to swivel, to where you could fold it with the screen up?

JIMinSVAZ said...

All of the touch screen kits I have seen so far to include the ones you link to are either 800x600 or 640x480. What resolution do you have it running at for it to work?

JKK said...

It would need too much to make it convertible..

.. if you are looking same size convertible umpc you should check

Kohjinsha ( starting at $799 SA version )
or
U810 ( starting at $899 )

U can see all umpcs at my UMPC Browser on the side bar..

JKK said...

Jim Link: u need just the panel and the controller.. it doesn't care your resolution.

U can calibrate it to any resolution.

SUPER AWESOME!!!! maybe a nice how-to? =) btw JKK how much power does the touchscreen draw? have u noticed a considerable shortage in battery life? thanks awesome hack!!!

jkk, i really would like to commend you for your creativity. I am blown away at your mod..EEE mod of the year for sure. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next. Please post a how-to guide so the rest of the eee community can benefit from your creativity.

Anonymous said...

Step by step how-to PLEASE!!! I'm a software guy, NOT hardware... any tips/tricks/etc you could give in a how-to would be much appreciated!

Anonymous said...

WoW! Before this I was thinking of buying an eee but now mine is on the way. Thanks to JKK! Great Work!

JKK, If you could kindly post a short How-to and give us exact instructions. It would be wonderful! The resources you have provided are very useful but those who are not very hardware saavy like myself would greatly appreciate a short tutorial about the exact location of the wire soldering on the motherboard etc.

Joshua said...

Oh man, since I saw this video I've wanted this sooooo bad.

I don't suppose you do any custom orders huh? :D

Anonymous said...

Incredible! Could you pleeeeeaaaaaase publish a "how-to" :-) This would be like Christmas

Thats very impressive mate :). I was thinking about the same mod myself, sourcing the correct LCD has proven a pain. Did you find yourself doing any heavy mods to the screen - I want to avoid the old dremel if i can help it

Anonymous said...

Excellent Job. Waiting for your HOW-TO

Anonymous said...

Great job jkk, love the site btw. Just a quick question. How good is the touch screen for drawing with? I'm not expecting it to be up there with a wacom but could you use it to draw somethin with? Keep up the good work.

Cool Mod. With no camera in "surf" models then you should maybe have a power supply and a USB connection that are not used because in the Surf there is no Camera. Have you tried this?

A 2G Surf with touch screen, more RAM, and extra SSD Flash drive for gOS added (all mods)... keeping the original Flash in a dual boot for the Xandros install (if desired to keep it)?

Question: Does touch screen use more power (not much to the EeePC left to spare)? So - otherwise, you know if the battery pack for the Eee PC can be modified to accept 15 minute rechargable AA batteries system that can even be rechared in a car (and if can use in Eee PC somehow, then best with an easy to remove and install fresh ones method)? That would be heaven, and I would then get one, as the only stop is travel, or school with Eee PC, and having only a couple of hours battery (when you need it to be up most of the day)?

newimagenio said...

I think this touchscreen is "a replacement 7" screen", not an overlay over the Asus's screen.
Why?

Have you noticed that you can see the face and the hands of the guy in the screen?
As far as I know, the EeePC's screen is not as reflective.
Definitively, the mistery is that this guy has replaced the Asus's LCD by a touchscreen one.

BLOG: http://asuse3.blogspot.com

newimagenio said...

I was wrong. It is really an overlay, not a new screen. I'm sorry

Miles said...

Hi JKK :)...

I'm trying to find some information out, why did you choose not to draw power from the webcam USB port?

Hi there - your site is amazing!
I am so impressed with the touch screen and wish I could buy it ready installed. I have seen the fido dido version on ebay and your translated instructions for the 'easy to touch'. This looks easy enough for a complete novice like me to attempt but I was wondering if the web cam is lost with this kit too
many thanks Lisa

Hello JKK and others, using your advices I've transformed a 700 EEEPC to tablet, making a hole in the top case. At first try I had a soldering controler for the touch screen but a bad solder blew out the motherboard. As I had a second EEEPC I bought a solderless touch screen to fit on the webcam port. Unfortunately it's not working even after enabling the cam port in the bios. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks for help.

Anonymous said...

Hello JKK,
Apologies if you have received this request before (which I'm sure you have)
For those of us who are not confident or skilled with DIY "how to's" do you for a fee, do these touch screen converstions for others??

Hey JKK,
maybe u can help me a little bit.
i already installed a touchkit in my eee 1000h, works fine.
but windows 7 recognize it as mouse and blocks most of the touchscreen-abilitys of windows.
any ideas to chace the driver for windows 7?
