$429 USD = £282 GBP, but UK price is £372 = $565 USD! wtf?

no way thats only $429 USD

any word on battery life?

Unknown said...

battery life should be 6 hrs.

hmm i like the look of that device but i dont like glossy displays. i will whait for the 1005HAB and then will see.

and i whait for the t91 and t101.

the 1008HA is ok but what is new? not much i think, only the vga port and lion polymer battery.

Great see you are covering the system. Really hope you get your hands on a T101h and covert that bad boy to ssd once it comes out. I will probably get something similar when windows 7 comes out and either upgrade it with an ssd or get it preconfigured. Just add an ssd, nvidia ion along with windows 7 (media centre included) and its the dream netbook for me.

PS @ Afront thats mainly tax so we can have a free health care system etc

PSS shipping @ play.com in a few days - thats not going to be in stock for long LOL

Is this worth the price for a few millimeters of thinness? I just got a 1000he with 2 gigs of ram for 30$ less than this. Yeah it looks a little nicer but really??

I would pay 30$ for the lighter weight not necessarily the thickness. If you travel a lot or commute by public transport every day and have a netbook at all times, you will feel the difference between 3.2 and 2.4 pounds (less than 1.1kg). I am sure it can weight less than 1 kg using SSD, too bad they don't offer it by default.

Richard-UK. How about one of those Mifi 3g gateways. I think you profiled it when JKK, Sasha, and Chippy met up earlie this year I think.

The best looking netbook so far, especially the black version. If Apple made a netbook, it could be this shape.

@Afront - I hear your pain. UK pricing of Asus netbooks seems extremely biased, especially when compared to the US.

My feeling in general is that it'd be best to wait for the 1005ha, which although *slightly* chunkier will allow for user user replacable batteries. I don't know about anybody else, but I think I'd find a backup battery a boon now that I'm used to the exceptional battery life of my 1000HE!

Novice user here excited about the 1008HA because of the weight. Can someone explain exactly what it means that the battery is not user replaceable?
Thanks.

Just picked one up and found out that IT DOESN"T RUN Windows 7 due to Video issues. I had such a great experience with an Acer Aspire One netbook that I though I would upgrade to a slimmer netbook. But after bringing it home last night I found out that there are issues with it going to a black screen when poweing on OR hibernating...
There are some clunky workarounds that work for some but it's not a good choice for Windows 7 beta or RC yet. If you're planning on a netbook for Windows 7 this isn't it yet. Hope they update the bios at some point.
That being said it's a nicely built unit and feels solidly constructed with a nice keyboard.
