Speed test on HP mini HDD version:

And SSD version:

HP Mini 1000 has slow SanDisk® pSSD™ Solid State Drive and as you can see the HDD is not much faster either...

.. so next i will be testing some other options for it.

The current SSD / HDD are ok for basic use, but a bit too slow and laggy for my taste.

Are these PATA, ie. the HDD and SSD?

If the HDD is PATA you won't be able to use the new Toshiba 1.8" SATA 5,400 rpm drives. I'm assuming they're 1.8" hard drives... what kind of connector (maybe you don't know given that you've only got an SSD version?)

If the SSD is PATA I assume you'll be able to test it with the Dell Runcore modules? From the video it looks like the sideways mount is really short. Do you know the measurements? I assume the 5cm Dell's will work, but not the 7cm Eee's...?

It's funny, every time I think of something to do to to the Mini, I come on here and see that you've done it and in the exact same way I would. Niceley done!

Actually the hard drive test results are on par with the two recent laptops that i tested it on.
One is a dell lattitude d830 and the other is a HP dv5z, both of them with 5200 rpm drives.

JKK excellent work!

I got one of these HP mini's for xmas and wanted to upgrade the hdd to a ssd and was hoping you would have some advise. I was looking at the sandisk 5000 series or one of the RunCore's with ZIF. Have you tried any other drives yet?

Keep up the good work!

Nice Job JKK !

Can you test some mini pci-e SSD drives on HP mini 1000?

if it is possible to put two physical drives in mini 1000,
and optimize XP (paging files... cache... etc into the 2nd drive),
theoretically it might give a better performance...

I think you can do it........ ^^;;

Hi Guys... Great post... thank you. I've just purchased a 32GB SSD (RunCore Pro Mini ZIF) for my HP Mini 1000. I have a piece of cloning software (Acronis True Image) but am struggling to figure out how to connect the SSD to my laptop so I can clone the existing disk to it...

Do you know if there is some kind of USB > Mini ZIF connector I can buy, or external drive housing I can use.

Many thanks in advance for any ideas...

In order to clone your original ssd drive to a new ssd 32gb. First connect at least a external 40gb usb drive to the system while using windows. Then create an image of your current system using Acronis. Transfer the acronis image to the external usb drive. Next, you create a Acronis Boot CD that is under your program files. Remove the old drive and connect the new 32gb ssd. Now connect a usb external cd rom or dvd, and boot to the Acronis CD. Make sure you have the external hard drive connected to the computer before booting into acronis. Within acronis you should be able to transfer an exact image of your windows.

Hi Jkk,

why is it the graph shows 12MB/s write speed at 4k for the ssd and the table says 0.9 write? Not so easy to compare graph to a table. Is the HDD that much slower? Even the read speed on the ssd graph is 11MB/s.

Shoeless Joe , ssd is that much faster..
