Actually its not quite a bit extension but tolerated. That's why I like 901 - big nicely embedded battery.

Yes, I think they could have done a better job with the extended battery, similar to the Eee PC, or at least making it shorter but thicker, so it could be used as "raiser" for the netbook.

That battery makes what was quite a smart looking device plain ugly

Oddly the 2.5" HDD does not attach to the ZIF connector - rather it appears to connect on the rear of the motherboard.
Will have to search photos of the SSD version of AA1 to see if there is any connectors there. In any case - possibly the SSD version can even be modded with a 2.5" disk and not only a 1.8" disk.

The flip side of the motherboard - there seem to be something!

As I see there marked place is a slot for additional memory.

Yes, absolutely - the marked place is for memory. But it is the connector to the left of it that appears to be used for connecting the 2.5" HDD.

Well, over here http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=637 we came to the conclusion that the PATA connector is not actually on the SSD motherboard :-(

yep, it looks that way...

SATA... not PATA. The 2.5" HDD is SATA. The ZIF pata connector used to connect the SSD in not present on the HDD models, while the SATA connector is not present on SSD models.
