Hi,
can you please explain:
-Where did you find the matte cover?
-How did you install XP (especially the touchscreen drivers) with the RAM-instead-of-SSD thing?
-How did you build the double battery (connected the pins of the 2 batteries and glued them toghether?)
Thank you in advance, and sorry for being so newbie!

so everything works now?? what about the micro sd card slot (or is it mini sd). how do you get xp embedded and would regular xp work?? and can you elaborate on that battery mod??

thanks jkk

nice video and now a nice black device :-) runs good with xp. As Andreas wrote how did you made the double battery? to make that device perfect make a new chasis for the batter ;-) The matte cover i think is a carbonfoil which you can buy in some markets for cars and so. and at least a dissected sony p and i know whats coming xp and ssd, right?

Andrea, I believe the original cover just had some carbon fiber (or a look-a-like) applied to it and then lacquered to get a matte finish. Anything goes as long as it's matte.

The write buffer thing is just an extra disk buffer to cache the writes so the SSD throughput bottleneck is less of an issue. Everything still gets written to it eventually, data just stays in the RAM write-buffer until it gets done in the background.

Where did you purchase the battery? Is 20 Wh the maximum practical energy density you can get in a LiPo package of that size?

My Aigo used to be white, like you can see from earlier videos.

Carbon finish was applied with thin film printing in a factory near me, then lacquered with durable matte finish.

You can see the other video showing how to install xp to it.. just search aigo xp on search field up right.

I use EWF, which is write filter made by MS. It disables all writes to ssd and runs everything on RAM. It does not write to ssd at all if i dont disable it. i can disable it to install sw etc.

EWF: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms912915.aspx

I made my battery from 2 original ones.. just opened both ( top one from bottom and bottom one from top ) and soldered poles together.. + to + and - to - then clued them together. ( dont play with batteries, it can be dangerous )

Thank you JKK!
What about the touchscreen driver? Where did you find it?

Anonymous said...

Was it the Vaio P dissected??? Maan, you've just received it!! :D
Can you tell more about Aigo's Win XP drivers? What about Wi-Fi? Everything works now?

Anonymous said...

JKK, how much for your Aigo? Name your price??

Anonymous said...

I fully agree with JKK's rant !

Does Linux Ubuntu work on it?

Unknown said...

Need to put together a how-to for all, or a script for install,or some package installer that would use your XP install media and all the components would be pointed to and selected, including drivers and required applications, during install selection and install image would be made to USB or choice installation method. And if you could do all this and still keep the install under 500mb, I would pay to have that installed on my system.
If anyone is willing to take up the challange I would be willing to start the pot with $100.00 US?
Any takers?

Dude that's awesome...nice ending, haha

Hahahahahaha.
I like the idea of "... got XP so it´s now an UMPC..." but yuo are rigth!!!!
Carbon Fiber looks great... in everything!!!
The EFW, can be use in ANY other device?
Can be use with Vista (and probably 7)?
It´s a great solution.
And Yes, it becomes real more faster the device...
Only 800 Mhz Atom? Wow!!!!!
I´m awaiting mod in "Upss" Computer (Should i said P "Upsss" computer?)

just a quick question.
with EWF,
how are you installing programs,
also things like adding new firefox bookmarks,
are these all lost when you shut down the aigo?

Anonymous said...

i have to disable ewf to install sw..
.. if i use normal setting it looses all bookmarks yes.

but you can make it save to d drive if u wish... or use portable ff from d drive... or use bookmark sync sw

I only protect c drive

jkk

Jkk how does it save anything if it writes it all to RAM?

When you shut the computer down, I'm assuming it writes to the SSD, then restores that file to the RAM on boot?

Anonymous said...

got wifi to work?

Anonymous said...

i believe its just the browser cache thats forced to stay in RAM & not written to the SSD.

the only downside i see to that is it every time you go to a website everything must be re-downloaded. which could run up your data usage/costs very rapidly especially on expensive/limited data capped cellphone plans.

1 day and you already started modding it.....lol!

With EWF nothing is writen to the first ssd, everything is commited to the ram. so if you install a program or edit a document and is stored on you C disk, when you shut down you will lose your changes, and next time you boot you will have setting you had when you activated EWF. There is an option on EWF to commit changes to disk when you do something important and what it wrote.

Yes Browser cache goes away with EWF but there is a simple solution if cache is that much important to you. Just get portable firefox and put it on the second SSD. The settings jkk uses only do write filter on the first ssd.

Joao.

Please confirm or infirm chipset and wlan drivers in xp for compal jax 10. Thanks

jkk, that damn thing looks soooo good. Really, if YOU can figure out to make something *that* lustastic, why the hell can't the COMPANIES?! (Especially, you know, a certain FINNISH one!)

The speed of that was really breathtaking -- and I loved the iPhone-like scrolling speed!!

Question: Can you use an external BT keyboard with it? You must do a vid, even if it's just typing into WordPad or Notepad.

Great work. Am jealous!!

Oh -- as for the VAIO P, not jealous. I got to fondle it. Very sad!!

No chipset nor wifi drivers... Chipset drivers are not really needed as everything else but wifi is working fine...

.. chipset drivers might enable wifi thou.. for me it doesn't matter as i use 3G on it any way

( i have small wifi dongle i planned to mod inside it but after testing i'm happier with 3G always on )

JKK said...

Mike, it's a PC... you can add or use anything via usb or bt...

Anonymous said...

so is it working or not wifi after xp instalation?

Anonymous said...

JKK:

internal WIFI dongle mod would make it a perfect device now!!! pleeeaaaaaaaaaaasse do it and post a tutorial!!

Anonymous said...

utterly amazing and awesome! Hats off to you. Great work! I wonder what amazing things you'll do to that other device... :D

While I appreciate this as a "proof of concept", I really would prefer being able to buy one - just like this (assuming the keyboard works, I got confused about that part). Any way you could produce them (even with partially exposed battery)? I mean exactly like you did this one?

Anonymous said...

Me want one...
You need to pimp my Gigabyte during Cebit ;)

Anonymous said...

far out!!! this device is becoming the most attractive device i wanna own!!!

Anonymous said...

what about modding 3 batteries together? would that work?
