If only Aigo made their MID with the UMID components it would be a slam dunk. 1024x600 resolution with the faster components...

Too bad the OQO was too much money and are now going bankrupt... (technically they are looking for buyers)

Cool. Look forward to the 3G mod.
jkk, is the mbook going to make you put shelf the Aigo?

Look´s great! Looking forward to the 3g mod. How about testing a faster SSD? is it doable?

JKK,

interested in getting the UMID. the only thing that's keeping me is the SSD. read somwhere that XP is not designed to run on SSD because of constant write.

is there a tweak we can do to make XP SSD friendly?

if XP is not tweaked on the UMID, how long do you think before the SSD bonks out?

current SSDs will last years with any operating system..

Nowadays you don't need to care about the wear as controllers are taking care of it.

I would never use a hdd on mobile device.

Can't say much yet about umid vs aigo as i have only used it so little... i think on tuesdays lve session i wil have more solid opinions..

ssd upgrade on umid is not easy as it's soldered to mainboard

then why did you use EWF on the AIGO?

I used ewf on aigo to get better speeds. Aigo's write speed is just to slow for my liking... under 10mb on seq write.. horrible on 4k

Nice video, JKK! I'm waiting for continue.
Is where possibility for a enhanced battery?

JKK you are the man! as always fantastic review/preview ;-)

JKK, great as always.

Just a suggestion for when you do a live session with Chippy, would one of you be able to put Windows 7 on one of the UMIDs as it may be an interesting comparison.

thanks for that review, nice to see. looking forward for 3g mod.

i use ssd in my mobile devices and i will never have a hd again in that. i dont think that a ssd life is shorter than a hd life. i crashed too many hd in my devices. ssd is the future for me also on desktops, i think. just my 2 cents :-)

1 ssd or 2 SSD's? upgrades? is the ssd soldered? what about RAM, can we install 1 GB into it?

Aigo +ram, +cpu_speed, +ssd_speed, +resolution = purchase two of them and a couple of extra batteries. :-)

Thanks, looking forward to the live session. And the modding.

Personally however I feel I will just wait out this first round of pocketable Atom devices and get one of the devices coming in 2010 or thereabout.

Hey JKK how do I enable the touch scrolling on my UMID? I saw you were doing it in internet explorer.

Any details on the digital TV tuners built in? Does it already have DVB-T (or just the one which works in Korea?) And if yes would that work out of the box with Freeview in the UK?

@Anon
Its highly unlikely it will work with freeview. Its aimed at DVB in Korea

As a citizen of the USA who has been a faithful user of Psion products since 1992, I have mourned the loss of the Psion 5MX, which I believe had the best form factor but was not picked up by enough users. I bought 2 of them since production was discontinued and keep using them. I tried the OQO but could not imagine typing with it. I currently use the Fujitsu lifebook U810 and like it very much, but it is still much too large for my jacket pocket.

If you have used the 5MX, please tell me how the “feel” of the UMID M1 keyboard compares with that. Has a true XP replacement for my beloved Psion finally arrived???

I'm a Psion fan too, it's really too sad they dropped the 5 series.

Yup. Psion 5mx it was. Pocketable. Lovely keyboard and 23 hours on a pair of AAs. How does the UMID compare? (Apart from colour, wifi, usd and all the things an uopdated 5x might have)
