Oh, I'm so hoping it has the Huawei E770W or an equivalent (it supports HSPA/UMTS 2100/1900/900/850MHz). E770 is a similar one, with HSUPA support etc, but *without* UMTS 900.

I'm reconsidering the S5 again, even though it's missing a microphone and a webcam. It's just so nicely built compared to the UMID and the Aigo!

JKK, great work as usual.

Just FYI: the Aigo may be a thing of the past!

I thought the Aigo was very very close. I love the form factor. All it needed was 1024x600, faster SSD, twice the RAM, faster CPU and a better bettery. (actually that's a tall order)

I may have to go with the Viliv plus a diNovo keyboard. It looks really nice.

Hey JKK, why not hack the UMID guts into the Compal (Aigo) case! (I know this is probably not possible).

Looking forward to your Viliv/diNovo experimentation.

Cheers!

i am sitting here with a open mouth :-) this is a device i am dreaming of. cant wait to see more. thanks jkk

"Compal confirmed it has shifted a portion of its MID R&D manpower to work on netbooks, but stressed that it has not given up on MIDs, which it will continue to ship in small volumes."

Davide, it's not as if they're not doing them anymore! They're just focusing on netbooks... but isn't that the stupid choice? Everybody does netbooks. Moorestown is coming and it should make pocketable MIDs the dream devices they originally were aimed to be. Of course they may use Moorestown on netbooks too... but that would be a waste of the early Moorestown silicon! I want the world in my pocket and on the palm of my hand, not on my lap.

JKK!

can you please change the orientation and see if the on-screen keyboard follows?

can you also please check 3rd-party on-screen keyboards such as Zero Weight Keyboard or UBOARD and decide which one in your opinion is the best?

thanks!!

3G modem on this proto is Huawei EM770..no wcdma900 band.. remember things can change.. they have not officially released it yet.

Touch and d-pad follows rotation.. onscreen keyboard too, but it's useless you can only see half of it.

I will test other keybs too..

THX ahead of time!!!

JKK where is the testing/playtime video??

You have us ALL on the edge of our seats with this on! :D

JKK ,
Do u know when will 3g version available ?
thank for vdo anyway !

LOVE the external battery charger, that way you always have a full battery ready to go instead of having to recharge the device your using. those nice additional touches are usually only found on highend machines like the OQO.

would i be able to hook this up to my 1920 x 1080 monitor?

I'm sold. Wow. To think that I was even considering the non-3g version just to get involved. If this hits the $799 price tag (£550) I will definitely be making the purchase... One Q's: I'm assuming the SSD is a 64 but on the vid it sounds like you say something else?

This is looking better and better everytime I see it; nice work jkk. Can you do compatible keyboard tests next?

Sarig said...

This is a very good looking device! With 3g and good battery life, it's really something to desire. I thought about how much space it would have added with a slide-out keyboard, then you compared it with the Aigo and made the note about battery life, so I suppose that settles it ;)

Very nice video, time to start saving :)

JKK,

What bios version the s5 have??? I try to upgrade the hdd on my s5 with runcore mini zif 64gb , but no luck. The bios see the ssd as slave , but cannot format it ( i can make partition(s) but cant format , tried xp and windows 7 ). If i clone it with acronis it boot first time but after restart I get windows BSOD !. I can format it if connected via usb.

I am also thinking of the Runcore upgrade when I get the Viliv, please let us know if you have any luck with that. Also are you going to try installing 3G card? if so please post :)

i would really like to be able to dock this device to my 1680 x 1050 monitor when i get home.

JKK I have the perfect solution for the diNovo experiment!!!

Take the plastic holder apart from a leather Viliv cases. Its is already a perfect holder for the device. Now simply screw/tape/rubber band/do whatever is necessary to attach the plastic holder from the Viliv case to the lid of the diNovo, and you have yourself a perfect keyboard attachment! No modding to the Viliv itself whatsoever! It may not work, but it definitely seems like a much better solution than relying on the weak strength of velcro stuck to the two.

dear the freq , JKK did mention earlier , he cant answer every question since he is busy , is super busy , i believe he is only one , can provide us a fair
view on every machine. but only RUNCORE SSD (hp mini) which recomended by him , is a bit disappointed , may be due to MDD or RUNCore producer.

for generating Business income , if you dont like it , you can advoid his site , or without click any business advertisement , but i am a fan of him , and supporter , i will hit more the google ad and other advisertimese for him , i show my support. he can continue to provide more on the review.

remember , he is human , need family time and rest , and machine , even a cow also need a own time.

my opion , not offence

from ,
luckyautos....jkk supported

suck up to JKK all you want, but it doesnt even take 30 seconds to connect to an external monitor & check maximum resolution supported

Anonymous said...

It does if he doesn't have a monitor big enough...say his monitor only goes up to 1400x900, well then how the heck is he supposed to know if it could reach 1920x1200. Seriously when did people forget to think.
