The standard quality video works if you don't want to wait for the high quality video.

If you get a chance JKK, see if you could get a rough estimate on the high-end version. I've saved up around $800 previously for a umid m2, but I'm pretty much sold on the high end version of this!

Thanks again for all the information, I've really been waiting to see what umid and viliv brought to CES this year.

Only thing left to determine which I get is the actual release date of the high end model of this, and wether umid actually sets a price, and releases their model in the US. (with 3g!!)

Do the mouse buttons click? I'm not sure I like them being integrated into the keyboard like that. I'd prefer them above it, like on Fujitsu's UH900.
A Pinetrail version would be nice, just to get away from the GMA500.
I am Loving the matte finish. Viliv definitely knows what people want in externals.

Thanks JKK

Since Viliv plans on making multiple speced models, I'm hoping for one with a 1.6 GHz CPU or higher, 1 GB RAM, WWAN, no GPS (unless it's part of the WWAN chip), bluetooth, 802.11n, 1024x600 resolution, no camera and no touchscreen.

Finally worked - that made me happy, particularly in the mention of pricing.

Still no potential date for availability though? (I might have just missed it, of course.)

I don't really see the issue with the placement of the mouse buttons, if they moved the mouse buttons as you say, they would most likely have to move the leds. I prefer the positioning over the umids which is on the top part of the screen rather than on the base portion. The clicking would be the same as pressing a key down on the keyboard, really not a huge problem there. The M2's clicking actually feels cheap, just little pieces of plastic.

Are the clicky mouse buttons on computers more durable than keyboard keys? I tend to press pretty hard on mouse buttons especially when I'm clicking a lot (ie. games and Windows Explorer). I press a lot less hard on the keyboard keys when typing. Hopefully, I don't break the mouse keys.

@Epyon
I hope Viliv or any other UMPC manufacturer will never put the current version of Pine Trail. With the GMA 500, I can play 1080p H.264 videos at 20 Mbps using DXVA. With Pine Trail, you'll barely play a 720p at 1-2 Mbps since there's no hardware acceleration.

Whichever ever company releases their UMPC (UMID or Viliv) in the US will be the one I'll be buying.

Thanks a lot.
I will go and buy one for sure.

@UMID or Viliv

Looks like you're getting an Mbook BZ then. January 22nd at dynamism.com from what I heard. $499 introductory price. If you haven't seen this check google news for it.

I'm still unsure myself.. if I can get the specs I want on it (1gb & 32gb ssd, though I could drop down to 16gb without being too upset.) and there's a black style I might go for the umid, but I'm thinking more and more I'd rather just wait for viliv's version. This has become more true after hearing that bit about prices starting in the 3s, a multitude of models, and actual US availability.

I guess I'm going to have to just wait, but I think I may do an in depth comparison between the Umid, Viliv, and the E-king at some point and toss it on my site. Depends if I stop being lazy/working on other things for a bit. I've done enough research on them.

Thanks for the info. If Viliv doesn't release any N5s in the US before January 22nd then I'll be getting a UMID.

Thanks again JKK, excellent video. I can't wait for you to get your hands on it so you can give us the full review and test out all it's functions, such as 3G and the battery.

and I hope you can find out the specs/prices soon for all the models, but it seems like it's definitely the one to buy .. unless UMID counters back with a top secret M3!

They both have very similar specs, however the umid m2 is lighter, and smaller. It would be in viliv's best interest to get a date out there to combat umid's already "realeased" release date. In the end it will really come down to who will release the higher-end spec model first. A low end spec m2 in my opinion is just a waste, as the resale value is not going to be as great once the viliv comes out. The full spec M2 I believe, only does not have GPS, which if the m2 has 3g can be done regardless. The true question is did umid brign a 1gig ram model to the show.

I concur. If they don't have a 1gb (or 2gb? Please? ... I can dream, right?) model umid's not getting my business at all.

I like the placement of the headphone jack on the N5.

How difficult would the UMID BZ be to use (typing and mouse) when using headphones, since the headphone jack on the side?

Too bad the keyboard isn't thumb friendly.

http://www.dynamism.com/#Product=umid_bz

... 512mb, 16gb, $500 with promo code during CES.

I am seriously disappointed by this. Only model available too. I'll either go for the e king or wait for the viliv.

The thing is also friggen ugly. I had toys with that same silver plastic design, and this does not make the product more appealing.

Jkk - The new Fujitsu seems very similar but with a faster chip. Why no love for the fujitsu ?

Anonymous said...

probably because the fujitsu costs $1000, lasts up to 3 hours, bigger, not as portable and not as easy to thumb operate. It's too small to operate as a netbook and too big to operate while mobile. It's just full of fail.

Minions said...

I just hope they are not extremly limited with the release... Umid tends to release 1 maybe 2 models, and then you have to pay a ton extra just to track one down. I hope viliv will offer the high end model when they release the n5. I hate how umid markets their product. They release the low end model, wait 6-8 months before releasing the model people actually want to buy!

Another video with the guy at the booth gave an estimated release date of mid-march. Just a heads up for anyone looking for a release date. Just hoping a high end version is offered at the same time.

Such as what I'm looking for:
1.3 or 1.6ghz processor
32GB SSD
Webcam
3G
GPS
and of course 1gig of ram w/ win7
You can always put xp on it if you perfer that however.

scoobie said...

Can you confirm the specs ? I heard you mention up to 64gb sad in the video- is this definite ? Everyone else is saying 32gb. Is the processor going up to 1.6
Pity we have to wait til q2 at least for this

Some friends of mind had already bought UMID BZ. I think it is the same function, it that right?

It's already May and no word on the Viliv N5... what's the deal?

Are there any drivers or system disk for this device still? If any has this could they kindly upload for those using this UMPC. Many thanks
