Viliv S5 dissected

So.. on the HDD version, there is no room for 3G modem...

RAM is soldered like on all new UMPCs..

By soldering the pci-e connector and swapping HDD to mini zif SSD you could add 3G pci-e modem.

I'm getting mine in few days so stay put to see how to upgrade to 3G... Or maybe I'm getting the 3G SSD version...

Thanks to UMPCFever.com

That MID looks so cool. I'm idling with 1.8" 64GB ZIF SSD-SLC in hand. I can't wait to swap the HDD with SSD and find out what will be the battery life.

Does anybody know, is it possible to put Intel 5150/5350 WiFi/WiMAX adapter inside Viliv S5, maybe instead of WiFi adapter?

Hey JKK,
Did you ever get a hold of the Viliv S5 to try to upgrade to 3G? Your post ended with "I'm getting mine in few days so stay put to see how to upgrade to 3G." I've been looking for an update.

Thanks

How easy would it be to swap the hard drive on this baby? I'm thinking of buying this:
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=1.8%22+hard+drive&cid=6400322514425074847&sa=title#ps-sellers
But I'd like to know how hard it is to open my S5 (when I get it) and if it'd be too hard to do with my lack of experience on drives that small. I'd also like to verify that the 'ATA-100' connection of this drive is compatible with the connection on my S5-to-be. Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to respond!

It is easy to open.. You can use any 1.8 inch hdd or dds but it needs to be 5mm thick

Would MTRON SSD 32GB SLC ZiF2 (5mm version) - work ? I saw that on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250418455211 ). But regular online retailers and official site's spec sheet doesn't mention anything about 5mm...just 8mm.

I have seen that RUNCORE has produced a Zif ssd have you tested it with the s5? I am interested in the 64gb model.

JKK, can you show us how to mod internal USB stuff inside the S5? Like a internal USB micro sd card reader?

Is the display in the s5 a Samsung LTS480WS-C01???
