Google Chrome sucks!

Yep, it lacks features and it's not good with touch screens as you have to use scroll bars to scroll. But that's not the worse thing..

Did you know you can bypass EULA by compiling browser yourself? It's open source.

This is the standard Google EULA, you have to agree to the same thing when you use Gmail, Google Docs, etc. This has been around for a while.

but as soon as there's one fucking site distributing compiled versions which are essentially the same package, there's no need. stop whining about compiling.

Wow, thats pretty dumb... does this mean they can access your private data on websites? eg. online banking etc. ?!

don't feed the trolls guys!
the source code should be open and it is just doing what every little browser is doing.
Chrome is not a spybot, that's complete BS

@Saperalot and you know that so why not just stop trolling around!

What people are concerned of is the fundamentel Google policy and it's the same on pretty much every service they are offering, so what's the deal?

This is the faster browser at this time.
Try to open a heavy page with java and flash on it with IE or Firefox or opera and compeare with google crome. its awsome.
And its stil Beta.
I thing in the future we see grate thing from this browser.
Lite, Fast, with no dummy toolbars shit.
I thing is perfeck for my 901

Anonymous said...

Moikanos - try opening a stack of pages with it...

Every page runs as a seperate process and if you operate like I do (with something like 50 tabs open right now) - it chews resources far too much.

This is what happens when you react to something without thinking it over, first. Sure, it looks bad at first blush, sure. But think about the purpose of a web browser (or their GMail service, which has the same license). You want to exchange information with some other system, somewhere on the net. Turn all the 'enables' and 'gives' in that license to 'disable' and 'deny', and suddenly you have a piece of software which cannot do what it is designed for.

As for your claim that "They want to own everything you do with their browser", rubbish. The bit of license you quote opens with "You retain copyright", which specifically refutes your alarmist reaction.

The whole purpose of that section of the license is to release Google from any responsibility for a users own stupidity.

Google's new Web browser (Chrome) allows files (e.g., executables) to be automatically

if not, it would seem that the rights go to google.

"-copyright and any other rights you already hold [...] Do YOU copyright EVERYTHING you make, write, edit before you post, publish?" if not, it would seem that the rights go to google."

In point of fact, per the Berne convention, copyrights are automatically in force when a work is created, without requiring formal assertion or declaration of copyright.

So yes, the very act of writing something gives the author - not Google - copyright of that work.

i dont troll around, i know what i say, believe me, i am deeper in google as you think about.
The Browser is a Spy not more and not less.

Install it and check your system what it does.

Why a beta public? They made a big mistake at all.

You are a troll if you use the browser ;-)

And after all i tell my name you not. Or is the chase better than the catch? ;-)

Anyone worried about that bit of license should take a look at the terms of service for their internet connection. SBC/ATT for example:

http://www.att.com/gen/general?pid=11561#6

"while you retain any and all of your lawfully owned rights in such Content, you grant AT&T a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive and fully sublicensable right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute..." and blah blah blah.

This whole "Chrome sucks" blog entry has been pretty much invalidated.

Anonymous said...

Chrome is fast, OK.
Chrome is easy to use, OK.
Chrome will be in future maybe a damn good browser, OK.

But, why in hell, after closing, there are 2 Processes running and keep my hd working for hours? After closing the 2 Processes, the hd stops. Sorry for that, but thats spying my hd, not more not less.

I think we should not talk about the Terms of Service, everybody knows what that mean, we should talk about what the browser is doing after closing.

Thats no fair Google.

Anonymous said...

I open a half dozen tabs in Chrome, each has its own process, plus the single master process. Exit Chrome, they all close within a second or so - about the same as FF3.

You're assuming that it's spying, but in fact you have no clue what it's doing. Nice thing is, though, that the open source nature of Chrome will mean that anyone with a bit of programming knowledge will be able to see exactly what it's doing. And you can bet that a LOT of people will be examining the Chrome code very carefully for any sign of evil.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the post

Ponda Baba said...

This disappointing JKK. Chrome "sucks" just because the beta doesn't have features that tailor to a niche product category? I could understand if you said, like Chippy, that it's not a good browser for umpcs or judged it based on performance but this is silly. The majority of people who will use it will be using it on a desktop or laptop pc. Not on a tochscreen umpc or even on a tablet pc.

Shouldn’t the tablet pc people be should be rejoicing? IE 8 beta takes up 310mb of ram, FF (with all your plug-ins, for me at least) takes up about 148mb's. Google as of right now, with Google reader and this blog tabs open, ~ 19 & 20 mb. It handles huge website beautifully, and pops up right away, super easy and will save your battery life. On top of being fully able to be edited, it’s still at the beta stage. So that strolling problem you were complaining about, could just become something even better then what you have ever had before. Its open source, the only thing you could really bitch about is the agreement, and if don’t like it then I guess you can switch to using Yahoo, or better yet, MSN, lol, right, their better.

The screen scroll is uncontrollable, it won't display half the content on the web, and it is unsecure spyware. Google has exceeded Microsoft's wildest dreams in attempting to control users with this bomb. If it isn't changed it will blow up in their face.

Currently no browser for me will trumf the Opera browser. Best CSS support, rendering is very fast at intensive pages and resources are reasonably low, when you open page after page.

Mads Tejlgaard said...

An EULA like that is not legal in most states or european countries; google might be willing to take it to the supreme court, but given that there was a recent ruling in washington that castrated AT&T's eula for phones, making the entire thing void because it was trying to make the user vaive rights which are un-vaivable, people from countries and states with consumer protection don't need to worry.

The whole case didn't only make the parts of AT&T's eula evaporate that were too harsh...even the legal terms are now gone from most AT&T contracts.

So there's a good likelyhood that if ever taken to task, an EULA like this will backfire, and rob the company of all control of all software that has already been distributed....

MamiyaOtaru said...

It seems to me that 11.4 is the big baddie. If you go to any site with copyrighted material (which is just about every single site ever written according to Berne), you claim to have the right to give a licence to Google.

I think we all know what the big companies think about "piracy" real or imagined, but to issue licences to the content on their websites? I don't think they would like that.

Anyway, doesn't sound like an enforceable agreement.

It seems that Google have taken all of the other features off all of the other browsers, and put them all together - pointless! Opera already do a home page with links to favorite pages - this sucks, since I was expecting something really innovative, esp from a company that is meant to be on the forefront of technology and stuff like that. "Google MagPie" would be a goog google service.

Plus Google's privacy is driven by its need to make profit - it sucks!

The browser simply sucks. A lot of the Microsoft exchange web access features do not work over chrome – surprise surprise! Also it will scan your HDD for info over and over again!!!

DC said...

Opera doesn't impress me. I'm not impressed by Safari, Camino, IE (duh), OmniWeb, or Chrome either.

Firefox is incredible though. I tolerated Firefox 2 on my Mac because I was addicted to the extensions. Firefox 3 is so much better, so I'm extremely happy.

Why is everyone complaining about Google as a company? Eric Schmitt is the man. Everyone is calling them "evil," but a major part of their business philosophy is to never be evil. And they're not.

They give small tech companies what they want. I force a secure connection for everything, and I don't have any communications in my Google Apps accounts that are extremely sensitive, so I'm cool with it being in the cloud.

I think Chrome isn't too great now, but Google will probably deliver a great product. Hell, Android will probably be a great product.

Besides, a lot of people want a minimalist web browser that is faster and better for viewing web apps. It handles javascript and ajax extremely well. If you don't like Chrome, don't use it.

I'll play with it some more when they have a Mac version, but I'm committed to Firefox.

Joseph Cagle said...

In a way, I really like Chrome. And there are some features (look at the videos they have posted on the Chrome site) that other browsers don't have, for those who say they're not doing anything new.

However, I definitely need to say that it does need improvement. But this is the beta version.

Also, I'm running Crossover Chromium (which is basically the same thing as Chrome, but running through Wine for Linux) and maybe because I'm running on Linux, there might be some issues since it's not a native Linux app yet.

I think maybe they should have done an alpha release rather than beta.

I don't have a clue what half of you are talking about, but while i like the interface and it does seem faster than some of the other browsers for most sites. it consistently chokes on anything created in flash, particularly video and especially if you try and run a video on one tab and open another one. at least in my experience it then locks up for about 3 minutes which is super annoying. I don't believe in browser monogamy anyway but find that chrome is becoming the least favorite just for this reason..

1: There is a website for Google Chrome -www.google.com/chrome.
2: Google Chrome automatically updates itself but you can use "About Google Chrome" to manually check and install an update when it becomes available.
3: The latest version of Google Chrome (0.2.149.30) fixes most of the issues you all are having. Also, the next few releases of Google Chrome are going to be major with lots of functionality and performance fixes along with a few new features.
4: Google has fixed a mistake in Google Chrome's EULA which some people think means Google owns everything you type in the browser etc.
5: The people who are using versions later than 0.2.149.30 are getting it from Google's DEV channel (Google uses it for testers, developers etc to find and fix issues in those versions before they are implemented and released to the public as a beta, so they are more unstable than beta versions).
6: The Mac and Linux versions will be here soon..have some patience.
7: Add-ons and other features will take some time because Google wants to make sure it doesn't slow down or negatively affect the browser in any way.
8: Please publish this on other sites and share it with people etc. Thanks.
9: Google Chrome uses much much much less memory than IE 7 and IE 8 (beta) by far and also less than Firefox.

Right click on an element, select inspect element, then on the right side of the new window make sure Styles is expanded and select Show Inherited next to computed styles. Note the webkit set of attributes. Just what I DO NOT NEED is having to support a completely NEW or DIFFERENT set of attributes because the developers are TOO STINKING LAZY TO actually put a 2 pixel border width on my table cell when the STANDARD ATTIRBUTES say to do SO.

yeah - try it - single table 3 rows 1 cell / row. On the cell in the second row add border:solid 2px red; to the style attribute on the TD. Notes the 2 px border on the bottom and the 1 px border on the other 2 borders.

I am currently sticking with Firfox even when it uses 150 to 200MB. Just because The download speed of firfox is Good.NO NO It is best when used with "Download Them All" plug_in.

Google is not working on plug_ins so Till that I am I will be useing Firfox.

Since I like Downloading This and That.
There is no way too leave firfox.

So its ok to leave it as it is.

I use IE to check my page "how it look like" when I am "Sign in" on same page in the firefox

Google Crap (Chrome) is a disappointment. After I installed it, I could no longer log onto my third-party e-mailboxes (Hotmail, Yahoo) or most of my favorite websites using anything but Google Crap. I never set it as my default either. I tried uninstalling Google Crap, and the problems persist. I even tried reinstalling Firefox after my Google Crap removal, and it still misbehaves.

Up until a couple days ago, Google Crap also routinely stripped pictures out of e-mails I sent, and forwarded everything as attachements, which isn't good.

It looks like I'll have to do a System Recovery to rid my computer of Google Crap for good. I installed it because one of the guys at work said it was great. I miss my Firefox running properly. I've talked to others who said that the only way they got rid of Google Crap problems was to do a System Recovery. What a horrible product!

Anonymous said...

well actually it is valuable, whatever crap they may find. how people act on the internet, what they like/don't like, what type of links or pictures attracts them .. that's worth BIG $$ to a bazillion of companies and that is why google chrome collects it .. they do spy on you in all of their services. i don't mind that on youtube really. but it sucks in emails through gmail. they might not use any of those data to a specific task, they rather collect statistics of what people like or do. but for such a huge company, if someone paid them, they do have the levers now to do even the dirty things .. or if any of their god-knows-how-many employees goes rogue, who does guarantee the users that such employee won't send your private stuff to float on the net? ..
