Missing Windows Movie Maker on Windows 7?

No worry. Grab it from MS..

I have been testing Windows 7 on mobile computers and I was missing video editing tools as I need to edit them sometimes on the move..

Windows 7 doesn't come with Movie Maker like XP and Vista, but I tested version 2.6 on it and noticed that it works fine. Yep, it's not as good as the version on Vista but better than nothing ( Movie Maker Live is not better than nothing )

Hit the link to download it if needed...

Download WMM 2.6 from Microsoft

I used movie maker quite a bit for all my RC videos so I was a bit disappointed by it's absence in Windows 7.

So, I was browsing my backups looking for a program I used under Vista and saw the Movie Maker directory. I thought, Hmmm, worth a try. I copied the Program Files\Movie Maker directory from the backup into Program Files on Windows 7 and it works 100%. I just created a shortcut to the EXE and setup a file association for the MSWMM files and was all set. As the Beta for Movie Maker on Windows Live sucks, and the v2.6 download from MS left a lot to be desired, this was a great find for me.

seriously Microsoft? The Movie Maker in Vista was AWESOME. Intuitive, stable and functional. Now in "7", I find MM gone, the MM Live add-on is a worthless piece of detritus, and 7 can't even import VIDEO from my DV without installing another add-on....PHOTO GALLERY?????? (because to import video, of COURSE I would go to something called photo gallery!?) I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt because this is Beta 1. Unless you want Apple to gain more market share put a decent Movie Maker with DV support back into 7's production release for the love of God!!

dear people, one simple thing. microsoft is constantly being sued by the european union for packaging picture and movie programs within the operating system so this is there way of still offering that software without completely ending it.

Save your critism until they release the final build!

Thanks for the warning. I use Movie Maker all the time! I love it, so I won't be upgrading to Windows 7.

i just copied it from my windows.old folder, which the windows 7 install creates if you're upgrading from windows vista. in vista, it was in c:\program files\movie maker. After upgrading to 7, it was in (because I had the installer back my vista up to this directory) c:\windows.old

I put it back into the program files folder on the new install of windows 7 and it works perfectly.

lol wow you guys are tripping. so what if it doesn't come with it, it's still free. But, what I'm trying to figure out is that I used to have it on my win7 install w/o ever installing it. Yet now that i want to burn another movie it's gone. :( Yet my brother's laptop I installed 7 on has it, and I know he didn't install it. maybe a windows update changed some stuff?
