Asus Demos their touch features and UI on Eee PC T91 convertible netbook

This is looking really good!

Asus is not just making a UI and launcher but full set of touch enabled applications.

I can see application launchers, web browser, a gadget dock, photo viewer and editor, calendar, on-screen keyboard, handwriting app, video viewer, music player and memo app there...

Thanks EEE-PC.de

I hope that that UI is going to be on their Linux version of the tablet ... and, I hope I wont get shot for saying this, but an awful lot of that looked Mac-like (some of the icons were definitely Mac/NeXT like, and some of the other things seemed that way as well).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but were all of the tablet mode interactions done in landscape orientation? Nothing in Portrait? It would have been nice to see them doing that memo writing, with the virtual keyboard, in Portrait mode. Seems like you could do that, and still have a usable area left for the application. You might even be able to thumb type like that (portrait screen orientation, virtual keyboard in the lower 1/3 or 1/2 of the screen, application in the top part of the screen).

I agree with Saperalot: The T91 is the device I'm currently waiting for. If it's a reasonable price, with that UI, and with the Linux version (Linpus or Ubuntu) released before May, I'm in. If not ... then I may look a lot harder at the Classmate 2Go Convertible Tablet (whose Linux version is due in April, and their non-Tablet version had Ubuntu).

I don't have any info on Linux version, but this is running ontop of XP... and they said in CES and on Cebit Preview that it comes with XP:

Thay said target price would be 549 dollars

i think a target price of 549 dollars is ok for such a device.

Without 3G the Viliv S7 wins over the T91 though...

any info on how solid/ rigid the hinge is?

also, does the t91 use the same battery as the 1000ha?

Good Demo!!!!!
I prefer the T101H, an inch more makes different.
This new ASUS will be more powerful than actual, isn´t it?
Graphics must be powerful.
This is a really, really good news...

Target price 549... that is for T91...
Maybe 100 more into T101H...
It´s Ok.

T91 is a doubtful model IMHO - too big for ultra-portable compare to Viliv S7, too small for long work compare to T101H sibling and new MSI models.
But software is great. Good score for Asus.

is this just the rendered video effect or are they planning to build glossy touch screens? sounds kinda stupid to me, unless they integrade a small compartment where you can put a cleaning cloth or a pair of cotton gloves :)

oh, one more thing: the music sounds like the score of a porn movie.
